Is it just me or is everything become more and more fast-paced? I feel like I’m always rushing around like a headless chicken and forget to stop and ask myself why I’m always in such a rush to get things done.
I can hold my hands up and say that my time management skills could be improved. Despite being a really organised person, my life is a bit of a mess at the moment – an organised mess though!
So, here are a few tips that I’m going to keep repeating to myself until I’m able to manage my time effectively…
Alway keep your goals in mind
“Why do you keep doing things that aren’t getting you any closer to achieving your goals?” This is a question I ask myself really regularly. Sometimes I’ll fall down a rabbit hole on YouTube and before I know it I’ve spent 2 hours watching Christmas gift guides. Afterwards, I’ll get angry at myself for wasting time.
In order to plan and manage your time, you need to establish what you want to achieve. If you don’t have anything to aim for then there’s no point in even trying to manage your time.
It’s OK to say no
I’m definitely one of those people that hates saying no. I love helping people so much that sometimes I get so wrapped up in helping others take steps towards their goals that I neglect my own. Don’t get me wrong – it’s good to help people but sometimes you need to be selfish and do your own thing.
It doesn’t matter what your priorities are, as long as they’re in line with where you want to be and what you’re striving towards. Thing of where you want to get and make a note of the things you need to do and the steps you need to take in order to get there. When you can literally see the steps you need to take then you can start organising your time accordingly to completing those steps.
From time to time, we’re all guilty of crossing really small things off of our to-do list and pretending that we’ve done SO MUCH work, even if we know that’s not the case. It’s time to stop avoiding those more complex, more time consuming tasks. I’m really guilty of ticking really minor things off in my diary and feeling like I’ve run a marathon. No more! From now on I’m going to try and get the bigger things out of the way before I start sweating the small stuff.
As always, thank you for reading!
