L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask | Review

Hello again,

As you may have seen from my recent January Favourites post, I’ve been using a new face mask. Over the past few weeks I’ve been reaching for the L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask instead of my usual Mask of Magnaminty from Lush – I just wanted to try something new. Out of the three masks in this range, I wanted to try the Clay one the most as I think it suites what my skin needs.

As you can see, you’re supposed to leave the face mask on for 5-10 minutes to allow it to dry. I find that this isn’t really long enough so I tend to leave it on for 20 minutes at least. When it all dries you can barely move your face, which is probably because it gets right into your pores. It’s kind of disgusting but when it does dry, it highlights ALL of your pores. If you didn’t know you had dirty pores, this mask will definitely point them out to you.

It was actually really easy to apply actually. I have another charcoal mask that I’ve been using for a while which doesn’t apply easily at all. It’s really thick, making it difficult to spread it across my face. This one, however, spreads really easy. I also find that I don’t have to use as much of the product at one time because it covers my face quite quickly. The packaging says that the pot contains 10 applications but I’ve used mine 4 or 5 times and I’ve got loads left so I think I’ll get more out of it.

After the first time I used the mask I already noticed a difference. It reduced the size of some of the more noticeable bits of acne on my cheek. Also, the pores on my nose were so much cleaner when I washed the mask off.

I find that after using this mask, any obvious spots that I have reduce so much in size. It just seems to dry them out to the point where they’re barely there anymore. Then, by the next day, the spot disappears – a definite plus for me.

The more and more I used it, the cleaner my face looked afterwards. Now, after using it for a few weeks, I’ve noticed that I’m getting fewer blackheads and my acne scarring has massively improved too. It’s definitely worth the money.

If you wanted to try this mask, it’s still on offer at Boots for £5.99!

As always, thank you for reading.

Monthly Favourites | January 2017

Hello again,

January has been a pretty relaxed month for me so I haven’t been trying many new products. However, there are four products that were real game changers for me this month…

Soap & Glory Thick and Fast HD Mascara

This is an old favourite of mine but I haven’t used it since about 2015. I always loved it but never bought it again because I had other mascaras to use up. However, I got two for Christmas so started using it again and I don’t want to go back to using anything else. The applicator is really good at separating your lashes but adding volume making them clumpy. 10/10. Definitely buy it – unless you’re looking for a waterproof mascara – I’d stay away if that’s the case…

L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask

I’m really late to the bandwagon on this one. I didn’t buy this face mask before because I already own too many. However, Superdrug have been offering students 20% off recently so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to buy it. It worked out at less than £5 which is cheaper than my favourite Lush face mask. I won’t say much about it because I’m going to do a full review of it once I’ve used it a bit more. However, I will say that it basically rips the dirt out of your pores. As disgusting as that sounds, my face feels a lot cleaner after I use this.

Garnier Moisture Restore Night Care

I’ve been using this for a couple of months now and I really really love it. If I apply this after I’ve cleaned my face just before I go to bed, I wake up with hydrated skin. Because my skin is naturally really dry, not using a night cream makes my skin much worse. This has been a bit of a winter skin saviour for me. I think it cost just over £2 from Superdrug too which is really affordable for the how well it works.

The Original Beauty Blender

I’ve tried beauty blenders before but never actually tried the proper Original Beauty Blender. I’d heard that it was better than other brands of sponges so thought I’d give it a go, even though I usually prefer used brushes for my concealer and foundation. I was really surprised at how well it works! If you wet it a little before applying your foundation, it applies really evenly and doesn’t let the product dry out. I have really dry skin and I was finding it difficult to apply makeup with a brush. It wouldn’t blend easily on my skin even though I was using I really good moisturiser and primer before my foundation. This is a much better alternative to brushes. *Thumbs up*.

Monthly Favourites | October 2016

Hello again,

For the first time in a very long time, I thought I’d share my monthly favourites. Although I love reading these types of posts, I always forget to post my own. I’ve also written another similar post about all of the things I did this month.

Estée Lauder Shape + Fill Expert Serum

I’ve only started using this recently but it’s such an effective serum that it felt wrong not to include it. I basically use this after I’ve cleansed my face, I’ve applied my under-eye cream and I’m about to go to bed. When I wake up, my skin still feels smooth and hydrated as opposed to the dry mess that it’s usually in.

Rimmel Rita Ora nail polish in ‘Lose Your Lingerie’

This polish is literally ALWAYS on my nails. It’s such a pretty but subtle colour so it’s really wearable. I used to be into really deep, berry toned polishes but recently I’ve been gravitating to more natural colours. This polish is really affordable so I’ll definitely buy it again. I’m pretty sure mine is nearly all gone…

img_3637-1

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser

I was really surprised at how effective this product turned out to be. I expected it to clean my face thoroughly because it’s from The Body Shop and I trust their products. However, I didn’t expect it to remove all of my makeup and in particular my waterproof mascara. I rub a small amount into my face with my fingers and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. It gets rid of my makeup after one use but I always do a second one just in case.

img_3635

Clinique Lash Building Primer

As mentioned in my review of this product, this primer is amazing! If you’re looking to invest in a good eye product, let it be this one. I’m a firm believer that eyelash primers are more important that mascaras. How else do people make their mascara stay on all day?

img_3630

Palmer’s Coconut Moisture Gro

I absolutely despise coconut and anything that smells like coconut but my nanan assured me that this would make my hair a lot softer and more hydrated. Since I had my hair done it’s been a bit dry so once a week I’ve started leaving this oil all over my hair for the night and washing it off in the morning. It makes my hair so soft and easy to style. I think I’m willing to move past the coconut smell.

img_3631

Lush ‘Mask of Magnaminty’

I only bought this at the beginning of the month but I already love it. Although mint isn’t one of my favourite smells, this product feels amazing on my skin. This product was recommended to be by a Lush sales assistant who even showed me how the mask felt on my skin in the store. I loved it so much when I got home that I wrote a whole blog post about it.

img_3633

MUA Radiant Illumination Highlighting Kit

This product was released at the beginning of October (or the end of September – I can’t actually remember). I think I saw it in one of the many emails that Superdrug seem to send me. This palette was meant to be £6 but Superdrug were offering students a 20% discount when I bought it so I got it for quite a bit cheaper.

img_3629

Dark Places

I’ve only just started this book but I’ve been binging on it since I turned the first place. It’s just as dark as Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, which is also one of my favourites, but it’s a lot less predictable. I haven’t finished it yet but so far I’m in love.

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

Hello again,

I feel like a hypocrite for telling other people how to clean there makeup brushes and that they should remember to clean them regularly. I am AWFUL at remembering to clean mine. I know it’s disgusting. I’m ashamed. Moving on…

By now, I’m sure that everyone who uses brushes knows the importance of cleaning them. Think of all the makeup that builds up in the brushes and then think of the bacteria that can build up in the brushes. Ew.

I either use a baby shampoo or some other cleansing product to clean my brushes. This basically means that I use anything that will kill bacteria and leave my brushes with a pleasant smell.

Before (ew!)

Anyway, here’s what I do:

Rinse the head of the makeup brushes under lukewarm water. I avoid wetting the handle of the brushes because I don’t want to ruin them by washing out the glue that sticks the brush to it.

Mix the cleaning product into a bowl of warm water. This time I’m using a Nivea product because it smells nice and is designed to be soft on the skin. If it’s good enough for my skin then it’s good enough for my brushes. I don’t know why I’m acting like I have such an emotional attachment to my brushes – I don’t.

If some of your brushes are especially dirty, like my foundation and concealer brushes, you may need to put some product directly onto the brush and lather it in until it properly cleans them.

Rinse out the product and watch all of your built up makeup flood your sink. Not a pleasant sight, especially when you think about the fact that it’s the same gross makeup that you’ve been rubbing onto your face…

Repeat until your brushes regain their natural colour and until makeup stops coming out of your brushes – this could take a while if your brushes are as dirty as mine were.

Rinse the product out thoroughly – you don’t need baby shampoo all over your face next time you apply your makeup. Don’t waste your time by not washing them properly because you’ll only have to go and wash them again.

Lightly dab the wet brushes with a towel of some variety – be careful not to be too rough as you’ll mess up the shape of the brush and could end up pulling them apart. By this point they don’t need to be dry, just not dripping wet.

Leave the brushes to air dry.

After (yay!)

Current Skincare Favourites

Hello again,

Recently I’ve been shopping around for more skincare products to prevent my skin from drying out and to clear up my recent break-outs. I think I’ve found a skincare routine that’s right for my skin so I wanted to tell you about some of the skincare products that I’ve been loving recently.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Facial Cleanser

I’ve been using this product for a long time; I always wash my face with it each morning and night. It’s great for clearing impurities from your face, including dirt, oil or that smudge of makeup you didn’t remove. After washing my face with this I feel fully cleansed, I will repurchase this product many times more as I am constantly trying to prevent acne, breakouts and blackheads from uninvitedly invading my face.2015/01/img_0992.jpg

Derma Pad Deep Pore Treatment Pads

When I’ve removed my makeup and washed my face I use exfoliating pads to clean any breakouts on my face. Using this every night ensures that spots dry out more quickly; I’ve also found that fewer spots appear on my face. Prevention is better than a cure.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

This is a product that I’ve been using for a few months, after seeing it appear on many blogs and YouTube channels. I was a bit hesitant at first, thinking ‘why am I paying for glorified water?’, how wrong I was… The cleansing water not only removes makeup but it doubles up as a toner. My face feels refreshed, clean and even immediately after use. Another perk of this product is that it contains perfume, meaning that it doesn’t sting my eyes when I’m using it to remove my mascara and it doesn’t irritate my pores or aggravate breakouts.2015/01/img_0995.jpg

Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack Hydragel Turbo-Boost

I received this eye gel in the Soap & Glory Face Time gift set for Christmas. Where have I been without this? More often than not I struggle to sleep at night and wake up the next morning with dark, puffy under eyes. This product has helped me to minimalise the tiredness in my eyes and will brighten up my face. I would recommend this to anyone with the same problem. Even if your eyes aren’t that puffy it will still brighten up your eyes. Try it!

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Scrub

This was another Christmas gift that I have also received in previous years. I will never stop loving this product. I would recommend using this when you’ve finished work or after a long day; it leaves my skin feeling exfoliated and refreshed. I work in fast food so I need to ensure that my skin is free from greasy impurities after my shifts, this product works really well for this. Another perk of this scrub is that it smells absolutely amazing; it’s a very fruity product.2015/01/img_0999.jpg

The Body Shop Chocomania Body Lotion

I received this chocolatey lotion in a limited edition Christmas gift set, I love the whole set but this product is definitely one that stands out. As well as making my skin feel baby-bum soft, I smell deliciously like chocolate after use. I would highly recommend purchasing this product either for yourself or as a gift!2015/01/img_1002.jpg
