L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask | Review

Hello again,

As you may have seen from my recent January Favourites post, I’ve been using a new face mask. Over the past few weeks I’ve been reaching for the L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask instead of my usual Mask of Magnaminty from Lush – I just wanted to try something new. Out of the three masks in this range, I wanted to try the Clay one the most as I think it suites what my skin needs.

As you can see, you’re supposed to leave the face mask on for 5-10 minutes to allow it to dry. I find that this isn’t really long enough so I tend to leave it on for 20 minutes at least. When it all dries you can barely move your face, which is probably because it gets right into your pores. It’s kind of disgusting but when it does dry, it highlights ALL of your pores. If you didn’t know you had dirty pores, this mask will definitely point them out to you.

img_5601

It was actually really easy to apply actually. I have another charcoal mask that I’ve been using for a while which doesn’t apply easily at all. It’s really thick, making it difficult to spread it across my face. This one, however, spreads really easy. I also find that I don’t have to use as much of the product at one time because it covers my face quite quickly. The packaging says that the pot contains 10 applications but I’ve used mine 4 or 5 times and I’ve got loads left so I think I’ll get more out of it.

After the first time I used the mask I already noticed a difference. It reduced the size of some of the more noticeable bits of acne on my cheek. Also, the pores on my nose were so much cleaner when I washed the mask off.

I find that after using this mask, any obvious spots that I have reduce so much in size. It just seems to dry them out to the point where they’re barely there anymore. Then, by the next day, the spot disappears – a definite plus for me.

The more and more I used it, the cleaner my face looked afterwards. Now, after using it for a few weeks, I’ve noticed that I’m getting fewer blackheads and my acne scarring has massively improved too. It’s definitely worth the money.

If you wanted to try this mask, it’s still on offer at Boots for £5.99!

As always, thank you for reading.

The Original Beauty Blender | Review

Hello again,

I have used makeup sponges before but they’ve always left me feeling a little disappointed. In the past, I found that they absorbed more foundation than they were actually putting onto my face. After a while I decided that they weren’t worth buying anyone and stuck to stippling and buffing brushes – mainly the Real Techniques ones.

I don’t live under a rock so I’m quite aware that the Original Beauty Blender has a reputation for being the best. Most people actually claim that no brush or sponge can be compared to this one. I’m a sucker for anything a) pink or b) that will make my life easier, so I decided to give it a go.

img_5604

I ran the sponge under the tap a little and then rinsed it out so it was damp enough to blend my makeup but not so wet that the product would drip down my face.

Although I’d say I had to use more product than I would with a brush, it wasn’t enough to put me off. I started off by using really small amounts of foundation and built it up slightly just in case it started to look cakey.

I found that because the sponge was damp, it spread the makeup across my face a lot easier than a makeup brush usually does. My skin is naturally really dry and I’ve found over the past couple of months it’s been a lot harder to use foundation brushes on to blend in my foundation and concealer. I feel like the brush has just been drying out my skin even more.

img_5605

Although I wouldn’t say that the Beauty Blender made my makeup last any longer, it definitely made it look a lot better throughout the day. My skin feels a lot more hydrated and my makeup looks a lot dewier. Because it covers my face so easily and blends so well, I end up using less makeup than I did with a makeup brush that took a long time to blend properly. I feel like my makeup doesn’t dry out my skin as much as it usually would when I use a brush. Believe me, my skin needs all the moisture it can get.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this. It’s true: the Original Beauty Blender is a lot better than other makeup sponges.

As always, thanks for reading!

Gellért Hill and The Biggest Pizza | Budapest 2017

Hello again,

When me and Cem went to Budapest, one of the places we really wanted to visit was Gellért Hill. It’s essentially a 235 m high hill overlooking the River Danube. The bottom of the hill starts next to the Elisabeth Bridge, which we crossed to get to it.

img_5193

It only took us about 20 minutes to walk to the very top, which was a bit of a mission seeing as it had been snowing for two days by this point. Walking up stairs that are covered in ice and snow isn’t easy at all.

IMG_5219.jpg

The sun was also starting to set so we tried to get to the top as quickly as possible so we wouldn’t have to walk back down when it was pitch black. Still, I doubt the view would have been as pretty if we’d have gone before the sunset.

img_5195

This statue sits about half way up the hill. I didn’t know anything about it before we visited but I had a little look online and read that the man holding a cross is Gürz Elyas, a holy man from the Bektashi order whose shrine and grave on top of the hill was a place of pilgrimage in the 17th century.

img_5196

Luckily by the time we got to the top of the hill, the sun hadn’t finished setting so we could walk back down without slipping over. However, Cem nearly fell down the stairs at least 7 times. He didn’t manage to fall over completely though, which is an improvement on our previous ice skating adventure…

As you can see, it was well worth the steep walk.

img_5199

As a reward for walking so far throughout the day, we decided to order pizza instead of going out for dinner. I’m not a huge fan of pizza so I just got a standard size one and only managed to eat 2 or 3 slices. You can probably guess that the rather large looking pizza is Cem’s. He didn’t finish it which I was quite relieved about. Surely no normal man can eat a pizza of that size…

As always, thanks for reading!

Let me know if you’d be interested in visiting Budapest…

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara | Review

Hello again,

The Maybelline Lash Sensational is probably one of the most talked about mascaras in the world of blogging. I started using it about a month ago after running out of my Benefit They’re Real mascara.

I’d say the most prominent feature to this product is the fact that it’s really lengthening. Paired with a good eyelash primer, it makes my eyelashes really fluttery and feminine. It doesn’t make them look like spider legs, like a lot of lengthening mascaras tend to do, but simply enhances your natural eyelashes.

It’s not the most lengthening mascara I’ve tried, but it provides the perfect length for me. I had tried mascaras in the past that make my eyelashes ridiculously long and I hated the way it looked.

20161208_092529086_ios

If you’re looking for volume, this mascara probably isn’t for you. However, it doesn’t make your mascara look thin, it merely separates them in a fluttery sort of way. Because of this, this mascara never makes my eyelashes clumpy or too thick.

What I like the most is that although it separates my eyelashes, it doesn’t make them look unatural. As you can see, they’re not perfectly even like false lashes. They look exactly like my own eyelashes, with a little bit of volume and length.

2016-12-11-16-19-48

As the mascara doesn’t provide a lot of volume, I usually apply some of my Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded mascara first. I only put one coat of it on my eyelashes before using the Maybelline Lash Sensational. Otherwise, my eyelashes will look a bit more sparse than I want them too. I feel like these two together give me everything I look for in a perfect mascara.

If you’re wondering why I’ve only skimmed over the Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara – it’s because there’s a full review coming to my blog really soon.

As you’ve probably gathered by now, this little beauty is definitely worth the hype.

As always, thank you for reading.

Let me know if you’ve tried this mascara and how you got on with it…

12 ways to pamper yourself

Hello again,

Over the past couple of months I’ve felt a huge need to try and de-stress myself. Going to uni, having an internship and blogging mean that I’m always thinking about what I have to do next. Even when I’m trying to have a relaxed evening, I’m always thinking about the work I have to do. What I’m trying to say is that I’m starting to realise the importance of self-love and appreciation. For me, this means doing things that help me to unload all of my stress whenever I get the chance. Here are some of the things that I do…

Put a face mask on

My personal favourite is the Lush Mask of Magnaminty but I recently jumped on the charcoal mask bandwagon. Yes people, we’re now putting charcoal on our faces.

Paint your nails

For some this might be stressful, for others this might be therapeutical. Go for a nude so theres a smaller chance of you staining your bed sheets with polish and getting yourself worked up about it.

Eat all of the baked goods you can find

Am I the only one whose happiness is defined by pain au chocolats and giant chocolate cookies?

Binge Netflix

Have a movie marathon or start a new TV series. If you choose the latter, be sure to stay in bed until you’ve finished the first series. Don’t just stop after a few episodes. You’re not a quitter. Last week I rewatched the whole first season of Prison Break for no reason other than I was in the mood for it.

Buy yourself flowers

Don’t buy them because you’re a strong independent women. Just buy them because peonies are your favourite and they smell lovely.

Light some candles

I can’t relax without candles. This sounds a little dramatic and makes me look incredibly high maintenance but I just can’t. If I’m in my room then I’ve always got a candle burning. My personal favourite is Red Raspberry by Yankee Candle.

Cook (…or order) your favourite meal

I’m a big fan of home cooking but there are some foods that don’t taste as good if they’re not from a takeaway. I’ve heard from many pizzas enthusiasts that a Morrisons margarita is no Domino’s meat feast. Choose wisely with this one…

Give yourself time to do something you enjoy

Sometimes you need to do something for you and only you, even if it’s not something that interests those around you. Make time for things that YOU love.

Buy brownies. Warm them up. Put Ben & Jerry’s on top.

A personal favourite of mine…

Get your hair done

Put a stop to the home bleaching and allow yourself this treat. My favourite part of getting hair done is the little head massage you get when the hairdresser is shampooing your hair.

Have a Lush bath

I’m very jealous of anyone who gets to enjoy the luxury of going to Lush, choosing a bath bomb and reading a mag in the bath. I only have a shower for crying out loud. I miss bubbles!

Go to the cinema

I find that going to the cinema is basically the same as watching a film from the comfort of your own bed, but it feels a bit more special. I don’t really know how to describe it but going to the cinema feels a lot better than sitting home and watching something. Although it’s a little more expensive than Netflix, sometimes it’s worth it. Me and my boyfriend went to see Sausage Party recently and it was hilarious!

As always, thank you for reading.

My Birthday | November 2016

Hello again,

This year my birthday started off a little different. At about 12:30am (so it’s only just my birthday here) I went to the toilet because I was about to go to bed. I didn’t take my room key fob with me because the rooms don’t lock by themselves.

When I tried to get back into my room, it was locked. I didn’t even have my phone with me or my slippers on either. I went downstairs to ask the security guard if he could let me in and he told me that the people from reception hadn’t left him the master key so he was unable to open my room. After about an hour of me standing in my kitchen watching an episode of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares from 2013, he found some sort of emergency door unlocking device that eventually opened my door.

What a way to start the day.

During the day, I had to go to uni from 2pm until 5pm before I could spend an evening free of assignments and uni related stress.

Me and Cem went for dinner at Frankie and Benny’s. I had spaghetti and meatballs and it was heavenly. I was also too full to move afterwards and I didn’t even eat all of it.

20161116_204105395_ios-1

Straight after we ate, we went to play TopGolf. We’re both highly competitive so we both thought we were going to win. I’m usually the loser of golf but today I had a feeling that today I was going to win.

As you can see, I was well on my way to victory. At one point I scored 13 which is unheard of in our games – we’re not the best golfers…

20161116_223504924_ios-1

In the end we ended up drawing. I would’ve won but one of the balls I scored four with didn’t end up counting. I usually lose so I’ll take a tie over that. However, I spent a good 10 minutes sulking over the ball that never counted.

20161116_224805952_ios-1

All in all I had a really chilled out birthday. I loved reading all of the birthday wishes that everyone sent me and I really enjoyed opening my cards. My cards will probably still be pinned to my notice board for the next few months, they look a lot nicer than the ‘to do’ lists and uni reminders that I have to stare at every day.

As always, thank you for reading.

…and thank you to anyone who wish me a happy brithday – I had a lovely day.

University Survival Tips

Hello again,

Now I’m in my second year of university and I’ve had a full year of uni experience, I thought I’d share some of the things that kept me sane throughout my first year away from home. If you didn’t know, I moved from Cornwall to London to study Journalism at LMU.

Personalise your room

This one is so important. When I moved in to my room the first thing I did was rearrange all the furniture to how I wanted it and changed the horrid red curtains and bed sheets for ones I bought myself. Other things that I used to decorate my room are fairy lights and LOTS of candles. If your room looks dull and boring then you’ll feel dull and boring when you’re in it.

Eat proper homemade food

Anyone that’s been to university will know how easy it is to put on weight or just become really unhealthy. Not only is it better for your diet but it’s also a lot better for your budget to stop eating so many takeaways. I’ve seen so many people run out of money really quickly because they’ve spent all of their money on takeaways and alcohol. It’s so much cheaper to just cook food yourself.

Give yourself down time

…i.e. alcohol free time. Freshers is intense and can take its toll on you. Freshers’ flu is REAL. It’s so important to give yourself time to recover from nights out or long weeks at uni. I cherish the days where I can stay in bed past 7:30am and do nothing. Giving yourself time to recharge is so important. It’s also really nice to turn up to a lecture fully awake and hangover free.

Stay organised

University can feel really overwhelming at times, especially when you’ve got deadlines coming up for all of your modules. I’m a person that likes to stay really organised. One of the ways I do this at home is having a big wall calendar above my desk so I can see how close deadlines are and I can easily remember any important dates. It just makes sure I don’t forget anything important.

Don’t clean up after other people

I used to clean my kitchen regularly even though it wasn’t me leaving food all over the over or blocking up the sink. I thought it was easier to just clean up every time I wanted to cook but eventually learned that it’s better to stop cleaning up after everyone so they realise that they have to clean up after themselves. As soon as I stopped cleaning the oven and counters every morning and night, the girls I live with seemed to make more of effort to do it themselves.

Apply for jobs like they’re going out of fashion

When I moved to university last year, I was sure that I was going to wait until I’d settled in properly to start applying for jobs. Three days into living in London, I was applying for so so many jobs. I hated the thought of not working and not having a source of income. I know a lot of people who really struggled to survive on their student loan within the first few months. If you’re bad at budgeting, I’d consider getting a part time job if I were you. That being said, don’t work so much that you can’t do your uni work because that totally beats the point of going to university in the first place…

Thanks for reading!
