The Best Bits | January 2017

Hello again,

The first Best Bits post of this year is quite a simple one. Here are the three best things that happened this January…

Budapest

Me and Cem went to Budapest from the end of December into the beginning of January and had the best time. We split our time between walking for miles to see all the sights and unwinding in the spa. My favourite parts of the holiday were ice skating, walking up Gellert Hill and seeing the government building light up at night. If you were wondering what Cem’s favourite part was, it was probably the GIANT pizza that he ordered…

Passengers

I’d wanted to see this film for a while and I’m so glad that we got to see it in the cinema. It’s essentially about two people being stranded on their own in a spaceship. That’s a really boring description but if I say anything else about it then the story will be spoiled. I’d highly recommend it anyway!

Getting a job

I finally have a job! I haven’t had any paid work since the summer because I’ve been focusing on uni and finishing my 3 month social media internship. My internship didn’t quite end because I now have a proper job there and couldn’t be happier. I genuinely love being there so being paid for doing it is just a bonus.

Ice Skating in City Park | Budapest 2017

Hello again,

One of the first places we visited in Budapest was City Park. We actually came here twice because there was so much to see. On one day, we looked at the museums and walked around the whole park to see what was there and on the other day, we went to Budapest Zoo and went ice skating in the evening.

There’s quite a few things to do in City Park so if we visited every single thing, we’d have spent our whole holiday there. City Park is home to Heroes’ Square, an amusement park, a circus, Széchenyi baths and Vajdahunyad Castle as well as the zoo and ice skating.

Heroes’ Square

Heroes’ Square sits between Kunsthalle Műcsarnok and Szépművészeti Múzeum, which are both art galleries. Although we didn’t go inside either of them because we were short on time, we still got to see the sun setting in the middle of it all, which was lovely all the same.

img_5017

Vajdahunyad Castle

Across from the ice skating rink, we saw this palace and thought we’d have a little look around. The photos don’t really do it justice, it was a lot taller and more stunning in person. Bizarrely, when we were walking around the castle grounds we saw a man dressed up as the grim reaper and loads of people were lining up to have pictures with him. Not sure what all that was about to be honest.

img_5023img_5025

Outside Vajdahunyad Castle a little bit of water had frozen over and some children were actually ice skating on it too. Cem made me walk on it with him and I was terrified that the ice was going to break and we were going to fall in the water, even though the water was probably a few inches deep. In the photo above you might notice Cem pointing and smiling. As I was taking that picture he was showing me that he wanted to go and walk on the ice. I’ve never seen someone so excited about a frozen puddle…

img_5026

Széchenyi Thermal Baths

We didn’t go in to the baths but we caught a glimpse of the inside and walked all the way around it. The building itself is huge and looks like a palace and the baths were also packed with people.

Ice Skating

After the practise we had at Winter Wonderland, I was hoping that me and Cem wouldn’t fall over in front of all the ice skating pros, who pretty much skated like olympians compared to us. The more and more laps we did, the more faith I had in our ice skating abilities.

A few laps in, Cem must have tried dancing to the music that was playing but failed terribly and started to fall backwards. As I tried to stop him from falling, he fell forwards instead and used me to cushion his fall. He fell on me in front of everyone and as painful as it was, we could barely skate afterwards because we were laughing so much.

We definitely need a little more practise before our next ice skating adventure.

img_5177

We couldn’t believe how big the ice skating rink was or how many people came to skate either. Compared to how much we’ve paid to go ice skating in Winter Wonderland, skating here was incredibly cheap and definitely worth the money. Also, you don’t just get an hour slot. Once you’ve paid to go ice skating at 4pm when it opens for the evening, you can stay until 8pm when it closes. We ended up skating for about an hour and a half but if we so keen to rush back to our hotel and go into the spa we probably would’ve skated for ours.

img_5183

We ended up getting the taxi home because I felt like I was going to freeze to death if I walked back to our hotel again, which in fairness was over an hour’s walk away. It was worth it though because it meant we could sit in the spa for longer.

As always, thank you for reading!

The Best Bits | December 2016

Hello again,

Winning a pug at Winter Wonderland

To be exact, Cem was actually the pug winner. He played a game where you just have to throw a basketball into a hoop once and you win a prize. The hoop was so so far away but by some form of miracle, we walked away with a giant pug.

Getting a first in the first uni assignment of second year

To be honest I didn’t expect to do as well in this assignment because of the lack of direction that our teacher gave us. A Christmas miracle maybe.

Ice skating at Winter Wonderland

This seems to be mine and Cem’s new favourite thing. We’re actually getting quite good. We can’t skate without holding each other’s hand yet but I’d say we’re getting close.

Handing in all of my winter assignments

As soon as I handed in my last assignment before the Christmas holiday, I felt a massive weight lift off of my shoulders. I am now in full Christmas mode and ready to eat all of the Celebrations I can get my hands on.

Going home for Christmas

I went home for Christmas a few days earlier than I planned because I just couldn’t wait. It was well work the 9 and a half hour bus journey and the bad back I had from sleeping upright all night.

Decorating a real Christmas tree

It’s been years since we’ve had a real Christmas tree so this year’s tree was a special one. Showing my little brother and sister how Christmas trees are netted was also hilarious.

Christmas Day

Obviously.

Moana

Me and Lily went to see Moana in the cinema and we LOVED it. The songs are really catchy!

Hosting my first blog chat

This month I hosted by first ever blog chat for The Bloggers Hub on Twitter. Everyone who took part was so lovely and we had a good old natter.

As always, thank you for reading.

Let me know some of your highlights from this month…

Winning a Pug and Attempting Ice Skating | December 2016

Hello again,

This year me and Cem have probably spent a little too much time playing games and trying to win teddies at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. We’ve also been ice skating twice, so our time there definitely wasn’t wasted.

The first time we went ice skating it was raining and cold so I spent the whole hour shaking and trying not to slip over. My motivational for not slipping over was wanting to stay as dry as possible. Luckily, the second time we went there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and although it was still cold, it was an improvement from the first time.

2016-12-11 18.59.49.jpg

One of the best part of ice skating is probably watching over people fall over. I’m sure it’s not funny when it happens to you, but it’s nice to see peope laugh off their fall and get up and try again. Me and Cem didn’t fall over at all, seeing as we spent the entirity of each time clinging to each other for dear life. Also, if one of us was about to fall, the other one had to keep them on their feet. I will say that I had to save Cem a lot more than he had to save me, although he’ll probably say otherwise.

Maybe next time we go we’ll learn how to skate as individuals.

2016-12-11 19.01.53.jpg

As well as ice skating, we probably played every game they had: shooting targets, hooking ducks, smashing plates and basketball. After maybe two attempts at a basketball game, You only had to one ball into the hoop to win the biggest prize, but the hoop was far away and an irregular shape and size – it was a lot harder than Cem makes it look.

Cem’s prize was a huge pug! It may not be a real one, but it still has it’s rightful place in my tiny student room. It’s so big that all the way home people were touching it and laughing at it.

Another highlight for me was getting to drink tastiest hot chocolate in the world. Most stands there seem to sell it. It’s simply a ‘Luxury Hot Chocolate’ which consists of Cadbury’s hot chocolate, whipped cream and a Flake. Heaven.

As always, thanks for reading.

Let me know if you’ve ever visited Winter Wonderland. If you have, what was your favourite thing about it?

The Best Bits | November 2016

Hello again,

These are some of the things that I got up to in November. It was a really good month for me, it’s left me feeling very content with the direction that my life is taking and everything I’m achieving. Proud moment over, this is what I got up to…

Bonfire Night

Although we didn’t end up watching a proper fireworks display, Cem bought his own fireworks so we didn’t completely miss out.

First day as an intern

I really enjoyed my first day and first month as an intern at Brain Füd. I feel like I’m learning a lot as time goes on that’s really helping my studies. The people I work with are fun and I actually don’t even feel like I’m working.

img_4171

Handing in my first uni assignment

I actually thought my first assignment was due in on the 11th of November but lack of communication and understanding meant that the deadline was changed to November 25th. Although it was annoying that I rushed to finish my assignment only to find out we didn’t have to hand it in for another two weeks, I was still relieved to get it out of the way.

Oxford Street Christmas lights

Going to watch the Oxford Street Christmas lights being turned on was just as fun and as cold as I imagined. Like I said in my blog post about it, there were live performances from The Vamps and Lousia Johnson and everyone in the street counted down from ten for them to be turned on. The atmosphere was lovely.

img_3737

My birthday

To be honest I wasn’t looking forward to my birthday that much. Who wants to spend their birthday in uni on a Wednesday? This aside, I still had a lovely day. Me and Cem went to Frankie & Benny’s for dinner and played TopGolf afterwards. We drew. We literally both scored 44.

Paris

A blog post will be coming soon about exactly what we did, but me and Cem went to Paris for the weekend. My favourite parts were seeing the Eiffel Tower, Canal Saint-Martin and Le Mur des Je T’aime.

img_4178

Winter Wonderland

At Winter Wonderland we played a disgusting amount of carnival games, won two teddies and went ice skating. Although it rained and I thought I was going to freeze to death, it was a lovely day. We both managed to skate without falling over once and even saw a man propose to a woman – she said yes.

As always, thank you for reading.

I hope your November was as good as mine, and I hope your December is even better.

My 2016 ‘To Do’ List

Welcome to my first post of 2016!

First thing’s first, (I’m the realest – ha) I hope you’re all having a lovely new year and don’t feel too hungover from last night.

Rather than writing another blog post about my New Year’s resolutions, this year I want to share with you the things that I hope to do and achieve. It’s a sort of ‘Bucket List’ for 2016, if you like. I won’t go into a lot of detail about each one or explain why I want to do each one because we’ll be here all day: it’s quite a long list…

To go ice skating

I’ve only ever been once and I broke my wrist. There’s always room for improvement…

To reach 1000 WordPress followers on my blog

This isn’t one that I’m overly concerned about but it’s nice to have a number to aim for.

To watch a live ice hockey game

Ice hockey looks so fun. I love hockey and I love WATCHING ice skating so it seems like the perfect combination.

To watch a film in an outdoor cinema

I’ve always wanted to do this. I’ve heard about a lot of rooftop outdoor cinemas in London that sound really appealing. I’d also love to go to The Scoop to watch a film.

To drink more water

I really don’t drink enough water. All I drink is fresh juice and tea. Not good.

To donate blood

This will be a difficult one. I’m petrified of blood and needles. Since they’re two of my biggest fears it’ll be interesting to see how it goes. Maybe I’ll get one of my friends to take me. I’ve always wanted to give blood.

To watch a musical or a play

I love musicals and plays and have always wanted to see a West End show. I think finding someone who will enjoy it to go with me will be more difficult than finding myself the time to go.

To read more

I didn’t read enough last year. I’ve always been a veracious reader but I don’t think I made enough time for it in 2015. I have so many books that I’ve been waiting to read but just haven’t got round to it. I should aim to read one per week or something.

To meet one of my favourite authors

Since living in London I’ve noticed that some of my favourite authors have been doing small meet and greets or signings. Let’s face it, I probably won’t be meeting Stephen King anytime soon. However, I’d love to meet Lindsey Kelk and Martina Cole.

To listen to people at Speaker’s Corner

This is something I was advised to do when I started university and I still haven’t done it. If you didn’t know, people go to Speaker’s Corner to listen to what people have to say about a topic or to join in with debates.

To see a comedian live

If I got to see Lee Evans or Kevin Hart I would put 2016 down as a success. Am I aiming to high? Maybe I’ll start with a small stand-up comedy venue and I’ll work my way up to the 02 Arena…

To not give a shit (pardon my language)

This one is self-explanatory but it’s also one of the most important. I definitely want to become more confident in myself and in the content I’m publishing on my blog. Recently I’ve been so inspired to think of unique and creative ideas for this blog. I think this has given me a massive confidence boost and has helped me care a lot less about what people will think l my content. I hope 2016 will be even better.

Thank you for reading!

Writing a list of things that are both inspirational and attainable is actually quite difficult. I want to challenge myself but I don’t want to set myself unrealistic targets.

If you managed to make it this far please send me any suggestions that you have that I could add to my list, or even tell me what you’re hoping to achieve in 2016.
