Soap & Glory ‘Thick & Fast’ HD Mascara | Review

Hello again,

Although this mascara is an old favourite, for some reason I stopped using it a while ago so I could try some new mascaras. I recently came back to it as I ended up getting two for Christmas – it must’ve been a sign…

This is a really good alternative if you’re looking for something that’s better than standard drugstore mascaras but not out of budget, like the luxury brand mascaras. It’s a nice in-betweener and it’s definitely worth the money.

You can’t really tell from the photo because the difference is really subtle but the actual mascara brush has more strands on one side. One side has fewer thick strands and the other has more thin strands. So, one side better for separation and the other side better for volume. I start by using the side with less strands on as it applies the product more evenly. However, using just this side makes my eyelashes really thick so I always use the fluffier side to separate them.

I find that mascaras are usually either volumising but clumpy or volumising but not lengthening so this is the perfect in-between for me. Whilst it gives my eyelashes a lot of volume, it does it without making them clump together. It also adds a great amount of length. I sometimes find that some mascaras can make my eyelashes look too long and false, because I have quite long lashes anyway.

I will suggest using an eyelash curler and then a primer with any mascara. I find it stops my eyelashes from clumping and separates my eyelashes evenly before I’ve even put any mascara on. This mascara works really well with my NYX Big and Loud Primer, which I featured on my blog not too long ago.

I’ve used a lot of mascaras in the same price range as this one but there hasn’t been one that volumises and lengthens as well as this one without going over the top. I usually end up using a combination of two or three mascaras to get my eyelashes how I want them and it honestly takes me forever. However, when I use this one, it literally takes five minutes.

You can find the mascara in Boots for £10.50 if you wanted to try it. They also still stock the original version, the Thick and Fast Mascara, if you wanted to try that one first. There’s a lot of difference between the new and old ones but they both work really well. If you wanted to try both of them, Boots are also doing an offer on Soap and Glory products so you can buy one product and get another one for half the price…

As always, thank you for reading.

NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer | Review

Hello again,

Seeing as I’d run out of my Clinique Lash Building Primer, I thought I’d try a new one. I much prefer trying out new products than buying the same ones over and over again. My trust Clinique primer cost me £14 whereas my new NYX Big & Loud Lash Primer was just £5.50 so as you can imagine I was hoping that the NYX one would become my new favourite…

First and foremost, if you don’t use an eyelash primer then you must. I find that it’s a product that nobody else thinks about. People tend to forget that eyelash primers exist. Personally, I couldn’t imagine putting mascara on without a primer. It simply wouldn’t feel right.

When I first used this primer I was a little confused. My Clinique one always coated my lashes with a thick layer of product. When I first used my NYX primer, it applied so easily that I barely noticed any product on my eyelashes. You can actually barely see it when I’ve put it on. I’m going to be honest, at this point I didn’t expect the primer to work at all because it was so different to ones I’ve used in the past.

I found that my mascara was so much easier to apply than it was with my Clinique primer. This stopped my eyelashes from going clumpy and looking too thick. This primer makes my eyelashes look a lot more natural and feminine than my previous one did.

Once I’d applied the primer on my first eye, I let it try for a few seconds before putting my mascara on. I was actually really shocked that the primer made a difference to the application of my mascara at all.

I’ve also noticed that my mascara is a lot more long lasting when I use this primer. I used to find that bits of my mascara would flake off gradually throughout the day. Now, it stays put right up until the moment I want to take it off at night.

It’s interesting how I thought I’d hate this primer and now I couldn’t imagine doing my makeup without it. As you can probably already tell, I highly recommend this product…

As always, thank you for reading.

Let me know what your favourite eyelash primer is, I’m sure it won’t be long before this one runs out…

Monthly Favourites | October 2016

Hello again,

For the first time in a very long time, I thought I’d share my monthly favourites. Although I love reading these types of posts, I always forget to post my own. I’ve also written another similar post about all of the things I did this month.

Estée Lauder Shape + Fill Expert Serum

I’ve only started using this recently but it’s such an effective serum that it felt wrong not to include it. I basically use this after I’ve cleansed my face, I’ve applied my under-eye cream and I’m about to go to bed. When I wake up, my skin still feels smooth and hydrated as opposed to the dry mess that it’s usually in.

Rimmel Rita Ora nail polish in ‘Lose Your Lingerie’

This polish is literally ALWAYS on my nails. It’s such a pretty but subtle colour so it’s really wearable. I used to be into really deep, berry toned polishes but recently I’ve been gravitating to more natural colours. This polish is really affordable so I’ll definitely buy it again. I’m pretty sure mine is nearly all gone…

The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser

I was really surprised at how effective this product turned out to be. I expected it to clean my face thoroughly because it’s from The Body Shop and I trust their products. However, I didn’t expect it to remove all of my makeup and in particular my waterproof mascara. I rub a small amount into my face with my fingers and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. It gets rid of my makeup after one use but I always do a second one just in case.

Clinique Lash Building Primer

As mentioned in my review of this product, this primer is amazing! If you’re looking to invest in a good eye product, let it be this one. I’m a firm believer that eyelash primers are more important that mascaras. How else do people make their mascara stay on all day?

Palmer’s Coconut Moisture Gro

I absolutely despise coconut and anything that smells like coconut but my nanan assured me that this would make my hair a lot softer and more hydrated. Since I had my hair done it’s been a bit dry so once a week I’ve started leaving this oil all over my hair for the night and washing it off in the morning. It makes my hair so soft and easy to style. I think I’m willing to move past the coconut smell.

Lush ‘Mask of Magnaminty’

I only bought this at the beginning of the month but I already love it. Although mint isn’t one of my favourite smells, this product feels amazing on my skin. This product was recommended to be by a Lush sales assistant who even showed me how the mask felt on my skin in the store. I loved it so much when I got home that I wrote a whole blog post about it.

MUA Radiant Illumination Highlighting Kit

This product was released at the beginning of October (or the end of September – I can’t actually remember). I think I saw it in one of the many emails that Superdrug seem to send me. This palette was meant to be £6 but Superdrug were offering students a 20% discount when I bought it so I got it for quite a bit cheaper.

Dark Places

I’ve only just started this book but I’ve been binging on it since I turned the first place. It’s just as dark as Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, which is also one of my favourites, but it’s a lot less predictable. I haven’t finished it yet but so far I’m in love.

No7 Makeup and Skincare Favourites

Hello again,

A brand that I’ve been recently getting into is No7. So far, I’m loving all of the makeup and beauty products that I have of theirs. A great thing about No7 is that Boots always seem to be giving away some sort of voucher or discount on the No7 products. There ALWAYS seems to be a 3 for 2 or buy one get one half price offer going on.

Anyway. Amongst the products that I’ve tried, here are my favourites…

Beautiful Skin Overnight Revitalising Eye Balm

As mentioned in my Evening Skincare Routine, this eye gel is one of my favourites. It soaks into the skin really easily and reduces eye puffiness. If I don’t use this then the next morning my under eyes look darker and puffier.

Dramatic Lift Mascara

I got this mascara in a free gift set – you know them ones where you spend a certain amount of money and get a free gift? At first I was a bit sceptical about this mascara as it didn’t seem to be as lengthening as my usual mascaras. However, once I changed up my eyelash primer I realised that it was the primer and not the mascara that was the problem. I was still scraping out the last bit of my primer when I tried this mascara – no wonder it wasn’t working out for me. This mascara looks very natural but still gives my lashes a lot of length and volume.

Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil

Truth be told, I don’t use eyeliner very often at all. However, if I do, then it’s always this one because it applies really smoothly and isn’t thick and dry like I find a lot of eye liners to be.

Airbrush Away Primer

This product was also in the free gift set I got, which is why it’s only a sample size. I tried this primer for the first time and I absolutely love it! It reminds me of my old favourite Maybelline Baby as it’s more of a serum. However, this one is a lot thicker so feels like it gives more coverage than the Maybelline one. My makeup seems to stay in place until I take it off at night which is definitely a plus.

Essential Moisture Day Cream

This is probably my new favourite moisturiser. Despite it being quite a thick cream, it soaks into the skin really quickly and makes my whole face feel super soft. I usually use this moisturiser in the morning when I’ve cleansed my face and I’m not planning on wearing makeup.

High Shine ‘Daydreamer’ Lip Crayon

I was a bit skeptical about trying this because I’ve tried one of the Revlon ones and didn’t really like it. However, this lip crayon applies just like a lipstick. The product itself is really smooth and doesn’t dry out my lips like I expected it too. I also think that this colour is a perfect nude. Also I prefer wearing lipstick, this lip crayon is a nice alternative if you’re looking for something different.

Moisture Drench ‘Caramel Silk’ Lipstick

This lipstick is probably my favourite lipstick of all time! The colour perfectly matches my lips so it looks really natural. At first I thought that the colour would be too dark for me but it’s a really nice ‘your lips but better’ shade. Unlike a lot of lipsticks I’ve tried, this one doesn’t dry out my lips at all. I’m guessing that’s what the ‘Moisture Drench’ part is for…

Clinique Lash Building Primer Review

Hello again,

For a few months I was on the hunt for a new eyelash primer, seeing as I was coming to the end of my Urban Decay Eyelash Primer Potion. As much as I loved that one, I wanted to try something a little less drying.

Unfortunately, my Urban Decay primer ran out quicker than I thought it would and I had to buy something else quickly. However, I didn’t want to commit to something cheap that wouldn’t be as good as my usual primer. Anyway, I was recommended to try the Smashbox Photo Finish Lash Primer. I hadn’t tried any products from Smashbox before so I opted for the sample size so if it didn’t work for me, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. This primer only lasted me for about a month but I’d say that it was just as good the Urban Decay primer. Still, I wanted to try something better.

Alas! After more Googling, I stumbled across the Clinique Lash Building Primer. I’d heard such good things about Clinique skincare and makeup so I thought that this would be a wise choice.img_2671

When in the Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago, I decided to see if boots had it in stock. They did! £14 later and I was the proud owner of this beautifully packaged product.

The next morning, I tried the primer for the first time and couldn’t believe how lengthening it was as well as providing a lot of volume to my lashes. I now realise that my Urban Decay primer didn’t actually lengthen my lashes that much, despite adding a lot of volume to them.img_2673

One thing I have found quite peculiar about using this primer is that if I apply the mascara when the primer has dried, my eyelashes look overly think and clumpy as if there’s TOO MUCH volume. Yes people, it is possible to over do it on the volume front. However, when I was using my Urban Decay Eyelash Primer Potion, my eyelashes looked their best when I applied the mascara whilst the primer was completely dry. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing that I have to apply my mascara when my Clinique Lash Building Primer is still a little wet – I just found it rather odd…

Overall, I’m in love with my new eyelash primer. At the end of the day when I’m ready to take my makeup off, my mascara is still going strong. I’m guessing that this is because it’s being held together my this magical primer.

Thanks for reading!

Let me know any primer or mascara recommendations – I change my eye makeup quite frequently.
